Have you ever noticed how racism against whites seems to be perfectly okay with the progressive left? This is particularly strange because when they aren’t pushing for bigger government or lying about Donald Trump, they act as the racism police, labeling things as racist even in instances where skin color is completely irrelevant. The only time they don’t cry racism is when whites are the victims.
Take, for instance, a recent tweet published by Huffington Post editor Chloe Angyal: “Month two of @HuffPost Opinion is almost done. This month we published: 63% women, inc. trans women; 53% writers of colour.” In a second tweet, Angyal added, “Our goals for this month were: less than 50% white authors (check!), Asian representation that matches or exceeds the US population (check!), more trans and non-binary authors (check, but I want to do better).” (Related: For more news on political correctness, visit PoliticalCorrectness.news.)
Several Twitter users were quick to respond, and they weren’t too happy with Angyal’s polarizing post. “You realize that this is discrimination, right?” one user asked. “At least you’re honest about be [sic] a racist. I’ll give you that,” another wrote.
Imagine, if you will, if an editor for Breitbart or some other conservative publication posted a tweet that read, “Our goal for this month was less than 50% black authors.” The liberal Democrats would absolutely lose their minds, ranting about how horrible of a comment it was, and would jump to labeling the entire conservative movement racist. However, because Chloe Angyal’s remark was discriminatory towards whites instead of blacks, the mainstream media is silent and the Democrats are perfectly fine.
This sort of racial hypocrisy from the left is starting to become quite common, and it all stems from the false idea that racism towards white people is not racism. Just last month, Campus Reform published an article on a Florida Gulf Coast University professor who claimed in an op-ed that black racism does not exist.
In response to his critics, Professor Thornhill wrote in the op-ed, “They ask indignantly: What about ‘black racism’? Or what about other forms of racism they believe exist on the part of Latinos, Asian Americans, and Native peoples. My answer is: There is no such thing as black racism.”
Obviously, Professor Thornhill’s assertion is simply inaccurate. The definition of racism involves the belief that one’s race is superior to others, which may include whites believing that they are superior to blacks or blacks believing that they are superior to whites. In other words, the definition of racism goes both ways; it’s not just “white people discriminating against black people.”
Put into practice, this ideology that says that blacks can’t be racist is starting to turn ugly, and whites are beginning to be treated as second-class citizens without any consequences whatsoever. Last year at the University of Michigan, the student activist group “Students4Justice” demanded a space set aside on campus specifically for black people so that they could talk, organize and do social justice work – no whites allowed. (Related: A student from Texas University has penned an article urging the genocide of all whites to achieve “liberation for all.”)
Here again, imagine if the opposite were true. What if a bunch of white people got together at the University of Michigan and demanded that the school give them a space for whites only. There would be outrage, obviously, but because many on the left subscribe to the idea that black racism is non-existent, A-Okay. (Related: Anti-white racism is becoming blatant on college campuses.)
All racism and discrimination should be rejected, not just racism towards one particular group of people.
